The Ganesh Talkies (India)

Date: Friday, 5th December, 2014
Venue: Sansara
Time: Midnight

Named as one of the ‘top acts to watch out for in 2013’ by Rolling Stone India and ‘7 Insanely Talented Bands That Are Going To Be Really Big In The Time To Come’ by Pepsi MTV Indies, Ganesh Talkies is the dance music cousin of Bollywood via Indian indie. The band blends alt-rock, reggae, ska and pop in a funky, twisted brew peppered with influences culled from cinema. The result is Bollywood's quirk, coolth and extreme kitsch meeting a dance-heavy ethos in the band's sound and live vibe. Like a movie plot, their songs tell stories – stories that unfold collectively to make the whole picture.

Big on drama, The Ganesh Talkies frequently slips into theatre couture on stage; its infectious live energy molded into the night's theme.

The band released its independent debut EP, titled Three-Tier, Non AC,in June 2012 and a full length-album, In Technicolor, produced by the celebrated producer Miti Adhikari in September 2014.Their songs Item Song, Dancing! Dancing! and Monsters In Your Head were featured in Stupiditties 6 and 7, the annual compilation released nationally by ennuiBomb. The former was also a part of the soundtrack of MTV India’s ‘Bring On The Night’. The Ganesh Talkies were also named ‘CONVERSE ORIGINAL BAND: 2012’ and have since played at Blue Frog in Mumbai and Arc Asia in Pune as part of NH7’s ‘The Scene’, The Ragasthan Festival in Jailsalmer, The B Flat Bar in Bengaluru, Downstairs at Zo in New Delhi apart from headlining various college festivals such as IIT Bhubaneshwar, NUJS, Marine Engineering College and Adamas Institute of Technology in West Bengal.

The band was also a part of the NH7 Weekender Festival that made its Kolkata debut in December 2013. The Ganesh Talkies have been a part of the Ziro Festival of Music in 2014, the 6th edition of Control Alt Delete at Blue Frog, Mumbai, and are regulars at venues such as Jamsteady, Princeton Club and Someplace Else in Kolkata.
