Nilotpal is a postgraduate from Film & Television Institute of India, Pune with a specialisation in Editing. Has been working as director, editor and cinematographer.  Spearheaded the first Asian documentary mentoring and pitching forum in India through DocedgeKolkata, Asian Forum for Documentary.  Attended international festivals and workshops as jury, tutor and mentor. Has been working as a mentor, tutor with young filmmakers devoted to creative documentary. Presently he is Professor and Dean of Satyajit Ray Film & Television Institute, Kolkata a premier Film Institute in India for postgraduate studies. Actively associated with contemporary creative writing - prose and poetry.


DocedgeKolkata, Asian Documentary Forum is an international event attended by some of the most noted documentary makers from across the globe along with the biggest names in the film funding and broadcasting world. The forum serves as a platform for established and new documentary makers to pitch their films for funding. It also features intensive training and mentoring sessions by vastly experienced tutors, for all attending filmmakers working on new projects for guidance and garnering funding.

This gathering of such talent, naturally, also acts as a fora for discussion on contemporary styles, storytelling techniques and open discussions.

Over a span of 7 days, Docedge also conducts Master Classes by internationally acclaimed documentary makers and a series of Film Screenings of films by renowned documentary makers. 


WORKSHOP:

Documentary: Identifying Moments of Close Encounter

This two part session offers an exposure to and an understanding of artistically valid storytelling styles of filmmakers who have been seamlessly finding expressive solutions for portraying the intimate experience of life. Through participatory dialogue we shall explore some of the author-led observational documentaries and share how slices of simple life become an intimate and intense experience.

Let’s explore engaging moments of real-life stories articulated by authors in documentary.

The session will comprise of viewing, analyses, and discussions to study dynamic dramaturgy of observational narrative.
